HBO's "Luck" Might As Well Be A Glue Factory

The HBO series "Luck" has been cancelled, following the third horse death on the set. Third. Horse death. While these things are bound to happen over time (show me a series in it's 6th season that hasn't killed at least a few horses), they are only in their second season.

So here's the thing: I realize that racing horses can take a toll on their bodies, but honestly, running is kind of what horses were built to do. You know, like back at the horse factory and stuff. Anyway, here are some of my ideas as to what might have happened on set that could have resulted in such a high horse death toll:

  • Director grabs the wrong script, inadvertently films remake of Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken
  • Horse Cock Fights - not what it sounds like. I mean cock fights, but with horses. Like, with razor blades attached to their hooves and stuff.
  • Soylent Horse Feed is made out of... HORSES!
  • Soylent on-set-catering-food is also made out of horses.
  • Taking a cue from auto racing and rallies, they decided to add a little pizzazz to their show by featuring other spectacles. Some of these might include:
    • Destruction Derby: crash horses into each other until only one is left standing
    • Monster Horse Rally: one giant horse tramples several smaller horses in a line, and
    • Giant-Fire-Breathing-Horse-Eating-Robotic-Dinosaur (like Robosaurus).
  • Horse Racing isn't interesting enough. I've got it: we'll make a horse hospital drama*

*This is funny because roughly 90% of horse medical care involves a shotgun. Also, Scrubs is a great show.
