Robot Firefighters - Another Step on the Road to Extinction

Firefighters - You might Want to Start Polishing Up That Resume
Everyone else - I suppose it's a good time to get your affairs in order.

According to Discovery News, the Navy is developing a robot firefighter. Granted, it's still 18 months from actual testing, and it will be used on Navy ships before it ever makes its way to the mainland en masse, so it'll be a little while until these things replace actual firemen (and subsequently, humanity), but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.

Anyway, just in case that doesn't make you feel at all concerned or alarmed, the military has also stated that it is hoping to explore "other potential warfighting applications," for the robot. Granted, that could mean just about anything, but it's not too hard to imagine this thing weaponized.

In summary:
We're all gonna die. We should all start being a little bit nicer to our toasters, just in case that helps.

On the bright side:
If we are rapidly approaching the reality of Robo-Firefighters, Robo-Cops can't be too far behind...
